SNP Leader and First Minister of Scotland, Alex Salmond today joined SNP candidate David Kerr in the forthcoming Glasgow North East by-election, to officially open the SNP's campaign headquaters.
Mr Kerr then took Mr Salmond on a tour of the constituency to meet with local people and hear their concerns.
Speaking on Duke Street, Mr Salmond said: "Glasgow North East deserves a fresh start.
"The SNP is on the side of people in Glasgow North East. That is why the SNP Scottish Government is working hard to deliver policies which really help hard working families - freezing the council tax, putting record numbers of police on the streets and phasing out prescription charges.
"The SNP is cracking down on crime in this constituency with more police on the streets and investment in opportunities for our young people - but there is more to do. SNP MPs speak up for their constituencies and that is exactly what David will do, if elected to Glasgow North East.
"On crime, on education and on the priorities that matter to people in this constituency and I know that David has what it takes to be a strong local voice for Glasgow North East.
SNP candidate David Kerr added: "It is a privilege to welcome the First Minister to Glasgow North East and to Duke Street, where I belong to and where I spent my early years.
"This constituency has a real opportunity to speak up and be counted over the next few months.
"The SNP in government is standing by the people of Glasgow North East, locally our MSPs and councillors are speaking out on crime and speaking up for communities who have had their schools shut down by the Labour council.
"Labour priorities are the wrong priorities. If elected, my priority will be the people of Glasgow North East."
