Labour leaders hide from Glasgow East - SNP hit the streets for second weekend
Saturday, 12 July 2008

Commenting on reports that Labour's London leadership will not visit Glasgow East - as senior SNP figures again join hundreds of activists campaigning in the constituency SNP Business Manager Angus Robertson said: "With their appalling record on the key issues in this constituency of rising prices, increasing fuel costs and higher taxes it's no surprise Labour's leadership is too ashamed to come to Glasgow East.

"Labour's candidate says she will bring the Chancellor here if elected - why not bring him now?

"Is the Chancellor too chicken to face the voters or are he and Gordon Brown hiding from people directly affected by the doubling of taxation on low earners and their inaction over rising fuel prices.

"After years of taking people in Glasgow East for granted Labour's leadership should have the decency to show their face in this constituency and face up to the concerns of people in Glasgow and across the country. Their failure to come to Glasgow East shows just how out of touch Labour is with the voters.

"In contrast the SNP is on the side of people in Glasgow East with SNP members, MPs, MSPs and the First Minister alongside our candidate Cllr John Mason out meeting the voters, talking to the public and addressing the real issues in this constituency."
