Today the SNP candidate for the Glasgow East by-election, Cllr John
Mason, will be joined by SNP Leader and Scotland's First Minister Alex
Salmond MSP on a national day of action, at The Fort shopping Centre.
Commenting before the event Cllr Mason said: "It is a huge privilege to
be selected to contest the seat of Glasgow East and a huge honour to be
joined by Scotland's First Minister on the first Saturday of the
campaign.
"While Alex Salmond is coming to Glasgow East to meet people in the constituency Gordon Brown is running scared.
"This by-election is the chance for people in Glasgow East to elect an MP who is on their side, not out of touch like Labour MPs who vote for higher taxes on the low paid.
"By voting for the SNP the people of Glasgow East will elect an MP who will put Glasgow before Gordon Brown and speak up for the interests of people in this constituency.
"In Government the SNP has already shown we are on the side of people in Glasgow hit by the rising cost of living. By freezing the Council Tax and reducing prescription charges we are putting more money in people's
pockets while Gordon Brown's taxes are taking it out.
"The SNP is investing in the East End and we're tackling crime by putting more police on the streets and spending criminals' cash in our communities.
"Labour MPs are out of touch with the East End doubling the tax on hard working families and allowing fuel prices and energy bills to spiral out of control.
"The SNP in Glasgow is 'on your side'. The Labour party is out of touch. Glasgow's Labour MPs have put Gordon Brown before Glasgow. It is only the SNP who will put Glasgow East on the map."
SNP Leader and First Minister Alex Salmond said Cllr Mason had shown his commitment to the East End of Glasgow by representing the area for 10 years as a councillor. He said:
"Cllr Mason is the man to put Glasgow East on the map. He knows what matters to people in the East End and he will work hard to make sure their concerns are heard loud and clear at Westminster.
"At a time when Labour in London is benefiting from extra billions in the bank as a result of rising oil prices, families in Glasgow East are feeling the pinch with food and fuel prices on the up.
"The SNP's record of freezing the council tax and reducing prescription charges shows our commitment to Glasgow East. And we will go further by scrapping the unfair council tax and abolishing prescription charges
completely so that the people of the East End have more money in their pockets.
"This by-election is an opportunity for people in the East End of Glasgow to send a message to London and to join the SNP and the Scottish Government to work together for a fair deal for Glasgow."
