Elaine C SmithAs the SNP takes to the streets for the last day of campaigning before the polls open SNP Candidate Cllr John Mason joined the ladies coffee morning at Garrowhill bowling club.

He was joined at the club by SNP Depute Leader and Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and actress and comedienne Elaine C Smith.

Garrowhill bowling club is in Cllr Mason's ward, an area he has represented for 10 years winning more votes at the recent council elections that any other Glasgow Councillor.

Speaking at the club Cllr John Mason said: "An SNP victory in Glasgow East on Thursday will send a strong message to Gordon Brown.

Labour candidate lets down east end - SNP is the only party on Glasgow East's side

Commenting after tonight's STV debate for the Glasgow East by-election the SNP candidate Cllr John Mason said the Labour candidate had let down the East End on major issues of importance to the area.

In the course of the debate she:

  • Admitted that she failed to give any public representation on the abolition of the 10p tax rate
  • Refused to back a fuel duty regulator which would stabilise the cost of fuel in the East End
  • Failed to back extra police officers just as she did in the Scottish Parliament
  • Continued to support the unfair Council Tax which went up 60% under Labour

James Cosmo and Elaine C SmithThe SNP campaign in Glasgow East today received backing from Scottish actor James Cosmo and comedienne, actress and Glasgow East constituent Elaine C Smith.

The two stars joined the SNP's Candidate John Mason for a walkabout at shopping centres in the constituency.

Speaking at the event the two gave endorsements to John Mason's campaign and urged people in Glasgow East to use the by-election to send a message to Gordon Brown's government by sending an SNP MP to Westminster.

Send a message on rising cost of living - SNP highlight Labour inaction on bread & butter issues

John Mason at Glasgow FortCampaigning at the Forge and the Fort Shopping Centre in Easterhouse today (Tuesday) the SNP Candidate in the Glasgow East by-election John Mason focussed on the rising cost of living and urged voters to send a message to the London Labour Government that they want substantial action on the issues that matter to them and their families.

Mr Mason was joined by Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond MSP, the actor James Cosmo and comedienne Elaine C Smith who were supporting Cllr Mason's campaign.

'Wish you were here Gordon' - SNP join holiday spirit with special Fair Monday postcard

Wish you were hereThe SNP got into the holiday atmosphere of the Glasgow Fair Monday this evening by delivering a special Fair Postcard reminding voters in Glasgow East how out of touch Labour has become with the concerns of people in this constituency.

The leaflet features Margaret Thatcher as she visited Number 10 Downing Street at the invitation of Gordon Brown last year and carries the headline "Wish you were here". On the reverse side is a satirical message from the Labour candidate "Margaret C" wishing Gordon Brown would come and help her campaign as voters turn to the SNP in their droves.

Mason joins Calton Athletic kickabout - SNP on your side in Glasgow East

Calton AthleticSNP Candidate for Glasgow East Cllr John Mason today joined players from Calton Athletic in Glasgow's East End as he highlighted the potential of the East End of Glasgow as the by-election campaign enters it's last few days.

Mr Mason, who was joined by SNP Depute Leader, Deputy First Minister and Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon, met the players all of whom are part of the Calton Athletic Recovery Group which supports people with drug and alcohol addition.

Highlighting the success of Calton Athletic and the transformation it has brought into people's lives Cllr Mason said: "The SNP is on the side of people in Glasgow east and Calton Athletic is one of the great projects in this area that is giving people in the East End who may not have had their troubles to seek in the past a new start and a positive future.

Ex-Labour voters speak out on switching to SNP

Ex-Labour voters are speaking out as they switch their votes to the SNP in the Glasgow East by-election.

SNP Candidate Cllr John Mason today welcomed the comments from voters who were voting SNP for the first time.

Speaking from the campaign in Glasgow East Cllr Mason said: "People across the constituency are turning to the SNP for the first time as they realise that it is only the SNP who are on the side of people in Glasgow East and that the Labour party are out of touch.

"From the rising prices for energy, petrol and food to the council tax and the abolition of the 10pence tax rate people feel let down by Labour and are turning to the SNP for a better future for the East End.

Only one prosecution for under age knife sales under Labour / LibDems

bladeSNP Candidate in the Glasgow East by election Cllr John Mason today highlighted figures, released in a Parliamentary answer last week, showing that only one person was convicted of selling knives to underage people in Strathclyde between 2003/4 and 2006/7.

Cllr Mason said that Labour had clearly failed, and supported the discussions between Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill and police forces regarding a tougher enforsement regime, which may include test purchasing for knives.

Speaking from Glasgow East Cllr Mason said: "These figures reveal the failure of the previous Labour/Liberal Executive in tackling the problem of knife crime amongst young people.
