SNP condemns Labour cuts threat to Stonedyke Primary
Sunday, 18 April 2010

Frank Rankin has slammed the Labour Council's record on schools, including their proposal to axe Stonedyke Primary-after Labour flatly denied that the school was under threat.

While the SNP Scottish Government is investing record sums in education across the country, the Labour Council in Glasgow is actually cutting school funding by £7 million.

That means:

  • Schools in Glasgow are closing.
  • Class sizes in Glasgow are increasing.
  • Teacher numbers in Glasgow are falling.

As a percentage of the total budget, the Labour Council in Glasgow now spends less on education than any other local authority in Scotland. Across the city the Labour Council is moving some of our children into poorer quality school buildings than they were in before. 96% of local people surveyed opposed the closures. Yet Labour completely ignored these views.

Frank Rankin said: "Labour admitted they are confident that the anger of communities will fade. In this election you have the chance to elect local SNP champions who will fight these closures and show Labour that you won't forgive-or forget."
