Labour axe the Argo - turned down SNP lifeline
Thursday, 22 April 2010

Mags Park and Frank Rankin condemned the Labour decision to close the Argo Centre, even after the SNP group presented alternative plans that could have saved the centre. SNP councilors had shown how all Glasgow community centres could be saved for £500,000.

But Labour pressed ahead with closures. Mags said: "These centres are vital hubs for our communities, but Labour axed the Argo with no concern for the local impact."

Frank slammed the way Labour had ignored the views of the community, adding: "The SNP Council Group offered an alternative budget which would have saved the Argo… but Labour went ahead with closure."

Frank went on: "Drumchapel and Anniesland need real SNP local champions to stop Labour destroying our local services."
