SNP Depute Leader Nicola Sturgeon MSP and candidate in the Cathcart
by-election, Maire Whitehead have today (Monday) met staff and
management at Scottish Power in Cathcart.
Commenting Nicola Sturgeon said:
"At our meeting we offered the SNP's full support to Scottish Power and
told the staff and management that the SNP will be ready to fight their
corner if the takeover by E.on goes ahead.
"We know the strategic importance of Scottish Power to Scotland and to
the economy of Cathcart. But this is also about the jobs and future of
the thousands who work for Scottish Power across Scotland.
"I find it bizarre that so far the First Minister has been unable to
offer any support. He has wrung his hands and forgotten the Scottish
national interest. With the possibility of a take over on the horizon,
the work force deserves better."
Ms Whitehead said:
"Scottish Power's future is vital to Cathcart, Glasgow and Scotland. That was the message I got loud and clear from our visit.
"Many people in the constituency are struggling to understand why the
Labour Executive is doing so little to stand up for a Scottish company
with so many employees in Cathcart.
"It simply isn't good enough for the Labour Party to just shrug its shoulders while there is a very real risk of takeover.
"This by-election offers voters a chance to have their voice heard. I
am sure they will want to make a difference for Scottish Power." |
