SNP candidate in the Cathcart by-election, Maire Whitehead, and SNP
Depute Leader Nicola Sturgeon MSP will be visiting Scottish Power in
Cathcart at 12 noon on Monday. They will also be meeting unions
representatives later that day.
Ms Whitehead has vowed to hold the Labour Party to account over its
'couldn't care less attitude' and 'appallingâ handling of the possible
takeover of ScottishPower by German energy giant E.ON.
Commenting Nicola Sturgeon said:
âAt our meeting on Monday, the SNP will be offering its full support to
the staff at Scottish Power. We recognise the strategic importance of
Scottish Power to Scotland and its importance to the economy of
Cathcart.
"I find it bizarre that so far the First Minister has been unable to
offer any support. With the possibility of a take over on the horizon,
Scotland's politicians need to stand full square behind Scottish Power."
Ms Whitehead said:
âScottish Powerâs future is vital to Cathcart, Glasgow and Scotland. I
will not allow the Labour Party to just shrug its shoulders while there
is a very real risk of takeover.
"This by-election offers voters a chance to have their voice heard. I
am sure they will want to make a difference for Scottish Power.
"People are struggling to understand why the Labour Party is doing so
little to stand up for a Scottish company with so many employees in
Cathcart. They have a 'couldn't care less' attitude. I think it shows
Labour has lost touch with its roots." |
